What the exam actually is
The naturalization exam (carta de naturalización by residency) has two parts: a Spanish exam — a short interview, plus reading and writing — and a 10-question exam on Mexican history and culture, where you need 8 right to pass. The SRE publishes an official study guide for it. Plenty of applicants are solid on the facts — it's the live Spanish that gets them.

What's on the Mexican naturalization exam?
For the carta de naturalización by residency, the SRE assesses your Spanish — a short interview, plus reading and writing — and your knowledge of Mexican history and culture. The SRE publishes one official study guide to prepare from; since 2018 it's readings and topics, not a fixed list of questions and answers.
Do I really have to speak Spanish to become Mexican?
Yes — the process assesses spoken Spanish, and the interview is in Spanish. Comfortable, real conversation is what trips most applicants up, and it's exactly what Colibrí trains.
